Colonel (later General) John Summerfield Hawkins, Royal Engineer, of Her Majesty's Boundary Commission, from London and the Pacific Northwest, to various officials in the War Office, London, England, 50 pp, 1859-1862, concerning the marking of the International Boundary at the 49th parallel between British Columbia and the State of Washington. John Summerfield Hawkins (1812-1895) was given command of the Land Boundary Survey of the 49th Parallel in the summer of 1858.
